Lunatic Fringe is an exciting 5-piece ensemble specializing in feel-good, up-beat tempos using unique instrumentation. Tubas, trombones, guitars, balafons, and other exotic percussion blend into a whirlwind of swampy New Orleans-style rhythms that make dancing inescapable. Whether playing original compositions or breathing new life into well-known cover songs the music exudes an earthy joy and their performances are a life-affirming celebration.
"The unrelenting cold coupled with the puritan ethic that still haunts this
area makes New England crowds difficult to inspire during the months of
Winter. I have been to numerous shows where the crowds are attentive even
captivated yet remain frigid and rigid. The only group I've seen who
consistently coaxes people out of hibernation, thawing out their inhibitions
is Lunatic Fringe. Everyone makes it onto the dance floor at their shows.
They make it there, shimmy and shake there, and most impressively stay there
until the end. The universality of the music coupled with the casual and
spirited nature of the performers allow this freedom to take place. They
come to party not for the audience but with the audience. And they do this
in such a welcoming way that their shows are great parties every time. At
the height of such a party if the doors were to open the revelers would take
it to the streets, dancing, regardless of the weather." - Andrew Hannah
